I played a trick on life
and trusted it.
Along with what my mind delivered;
the opening of a door, the murmur
of a child, the running feet from
a few rooms away until finally
they were no longer away, but here.
As if when having thought about life
with him, long before conception,
was a reality. And somehow, it was.
Much like the storm you feel coming.
Instincts materializing internally,
for no one other than yourself,
and the first drop falls, then you
hear the thunder- five years apart.
Life knew I was listening all along.

Matt writes of love, anticipation, and the longing for a child. At times, intuition and desire come together to create tiny miracles. And those running feet emerged from the deep recesses of the mind and heart. Life often gives us what we desire the most. We must keep the hope alive. A lovely trick on life.
Congratulations Matt!

What a beautiful piece. I love the way that love and memories are mixed along side of nature and the last line summed up this poem so beautifully Matt. Always a pleasure to read your work. Hugs, Joni
