Publishers today don’t seem to
Like the written rhyme
They say it’s out of fashion to go
Rhyming all the time

I think of William Shakespeare, Yeats
Their work was full of rhyme
And if they were alive today
They would lack publish-time

Today there’s little teaching how
To grow the art of rhyme
Into an art form fashion that’s
Deserving publish-time

Don’s writing never minces any words. It’s true that poetry styles have moved on and evolved from simple rhyme. And somehow the charm and respect accorded to rhyming has lost its glimmer. Could it be that rhyme is now perceived as a novice technique? I’m not a poet but I am aware of what’s going on around me. I’d say if you wish to rhyme, then now is the best and only time. Just do it!
Congratulations Don!

Amazing! Beautifully written and said. I think rhyme is still an important style in poetry inasmuch as poetry has evolved.

I cannot rhyme, but I use assonance and alliteration from time to time.

Here, here, I agree with Terveen. I still rhyme in my poetry, and can also do non rhyming work. I like to end my last two lines no matter how long the stanza is with rhyming words. If it feels forced then it doesn’t feel right, but look at the greats, they rhymed much of their works. Congratulations Don, great piece. I always enjoy reading your work. Big hugs, Joni

I totally agree with you but then again.. I’m old Don.. lol. I love when the words line up so naturally in a rhyme. Congratulations. Nice work! 💖
