Blue Shoes by Jeff Flesch

shadows trace my fingers, a space of

wonder filled with

lace

as other contexts make haste

sending to my heart delicate fabrics,

my mind’s eye, reminds me

of times

fire

the nostalgia burns in bright colors,

amber hues,

and blue

shoes

filled will pebbles from our past,

each one

a memory —

wispy-thin, and filled with love, in

remembrance, we shed them

one at a

time

as

we realize

the wonder of family, friends,

and kin…

Jeff writes of nostalgia and loving memories of the past. ‘Blues shoes filled with pebbles from our past’ – a beautiful way to describe the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that we carry inside. Realizing the bonds that make us who we are and being grateful for the lessons that life has taught us – we release those memories with long sighs of relief. And we venture on…
    Congratulations Jeff!

Lovely poem, Jeff. I have never had blue shoes, but I have had shoes, long gone, than make me feel blue when I think about their passing.

Thank you so much, Tim. Your reflection resonates. I’ve had blue shoes; and shoes that have made me blue in their passing. Many, actually!

When I was a kid I had a pair of boots I loved so much that I wore them until my growing feet totally split the sides away from the soles. I finally threw them out when the little pieces at the toes that were holding them together broke. It was a very sad parting.

Each pair of shoes has its own story and this poem reminds me that we are connected with these past experiences and in our haste perhaps we don’t always see all of the beauty of these connections. “A space of wonder filled with lace” lovely image, Jeff. These constant companions accompany us on our journeys. What a thoughtful poem. One to revisit and ponder.

Such a beautiful reflection, K. I think often we do move to quickly and just like that, the present becomes the past. I often ponder the need to relish these experiences, and reflect upon their wonder and beauty. Thank you so much, my dear friend. 💜
