Being Something by Bharath Upendra

Do things have thoughts? What is a thing? Everything is a thing when you look at them that way. These things, that come and go, why do they come? Why do they go? They say we own things and when we use them, they own us. I don’t understand, we have become so expendable, things get the best of us. Some leave me in sorrow, some, momentarily blissful. Is there a way of life where I don’t own a thing and nothing owns me? It goes both ways, always. I’m at a point where I’m going nowhere, but where did that point come from? That means I did get somewhere, somehow. This place, it has become a thing, something I refer to. It’s strange, how things change into things. You get me, don’t you?

Bharath Upendra considers himself a regular Joe who unapologetically talks about the usual and obvious. Writing to him is like an uninvited guest who still hasn’t left and to whom he’s gotten used to anyway.

Bharath’s writing is both contemplation and philosophy exploring the depths of life and the way we live it. There is no limit to the things that we want and have, and then there’s always room for something more. Are we turning into things ourselves? I like that question. Though the answer may be something we would rather ignore. This piece evokes a numbness that often grips us when we look for meaning in the darkest places.
    Congratulations Bharath!
