Allergies by Bogdan Dragos

“Are you trying to

kill me?” his mother screamed. “Are

you trying to fucking

kill me!?”

He backed away. “Mom, please.”

“Shut up! You brought

a cat. A cat! Of all things. In the house!

Knowing full well

of my allergies. That is a declaration,

young man. A declaration

that speaks

very loud. You are trying

to kill your own mother, you

insane monster!”

An hour later he

was in his room

caressing the cat’s head

and back

while it lay on his chest

and purred

“Can you believe her?” he

said to the cat

“Hardly,” said the cat. “She was

a monster though. You made

the right choice, baby.”

“When I decided to

keep you?” he asked

“Yes,” said the cat. “And when

you stabbed her in

the chest. You’re such a good boy.

That’s why I love you. And

after I help you calm

down you can

drag her body to the

basement. I’ll consume it

a bit every day

until there’s nothing but

bones and some

guts that you

can flush down a toilet.”

“I love you too,” he said

Bogdan takes the simple and leaves nothing simple about it. His piece inspires me to say that I’m glad I don’t have allergies and I don’t have a cat. Will that be enough to keep me safe? Maybe the poet may be inspired to write something about this…
    Creepy, horrific, super disturbing!
    Congratulations Bogdan!

    1. Despite being some of the most brutal and merciless killers on Earth, we can’t help but love cats

It’s like whatever they do is cute. Apparently, the human mind is designed that way. We are fast to forgive evil when it’s done by an entity that we judge as cute or good-looking. Of course, unlike us, cats will never label their deeds as good or bad, they’ll just keep doing their thing and look good while at it :)))
This particular cat however goes a bit beyond and that’s because the human mind that beholds it endows its image with unnatural characteristics (through madness, of course).

I love this piece and have sent it to the many cat lovers in my life. This is brilliant, and that cat is sooooo CAT. This is exactly how a cat would think about the whole thing of killing the mother and disposing of the evidence. Don’t worry about the body. I’ll eat it. Might play with it first…

Indeed, cats care next to impossible to bear a grudge against for their deeds :))

    1. Haha, thanks!
I should really bring back the days I used to record my poems in audio form to go with the writing. This would be quite a funny one…

How are you Dragos, spending too much time in that cage of yours? haha Had to read this one to my husband too. We both love cats and they are so much smarter then people think. My husband said, “You can take a cat out of nature, but you can’t take the nature out of a cat!” I love your dark pieces. Have a fantastic week and I think we have some jobs for that cat of yours!! Sending some big hugs, Joni

    1. Aw, thank you very much!

You know, I always thought that if cats were humans they’d surely pick a career in politics (especially this one from the poem).
