Looking out the window, I hear the clouds saying goodbye. They sound like you or maybe you lent them your voice. But they keep following me, as if you sent them to keep me company. It’s a long ride home and you don’t want me to be alone. Leaning against my rucksack, I think of how far I’ve come. I open the window and I’m pretty sure the wind has stolen your touch, I feel it as it caresses my head and combs through my hair. And I know I got a long way to go.

Bharath Upendra considers himself a regular Joe who unapologetically talks about the usual and obvious. Writing to him is like an uninvited guest who still hasn’t left and to whom he’s gotten used to anyway.

Bharath writes of a companionship that survives the burdens of time and distance. His words inspire one to believe that there’s more to love, friendship, and trust than constant proximity. The way he uses the clouds to reflect the presence of a loved one makes me want to gaze at the blue sky and seek my own well wisher. With so few lines, there’s much to be felt, contemplated, and retained for a dismal, rainy day ahead. I’m sure we all have them.
    Congratulations Bharath!

I love this style of writing as it gives a poet so much freedom of expression. This is an emotional piece that touches my heart. These lines especially lovely,

“I open the window and I’m pretty sure the wind has stolen your touch, I feel it as it caresses my head and combs through my hair. And I know I got a long way to go.”

The sadness of loss so incredibly touching. Congratulations!
