I Remember Your Melodies by Maitreyee Telang

My demon saw a home within you,
As yours did in mine,
For the loss of the brightest sun,
the darkness spread inside my body and mind.

The letters you wrote turns into ashes,
The towers of memories crumbles and collapses,
The bridge of the future crashes and converts to dust,
Finally, our clock of time rusts.

Since then,
I loathe everything you loved and touched.
I wash everything, but your smell doesn’t go away,
I try to replace everything, yet I can’t
All the things remind me of you,
Every aggregate enrages me;
Enrages me so much, I want to cry,
And grieve for your absence.

I hate you for leaving me and my demon alone,
In this dead-silent home, I yearn for you.
I break the vase, so to hear you scold,
I leave my clothes on the floor, so to listen to you nag,
I hurt myself, so to find your touch,
However, you do not wake up from your eternal slumber.

I want to see your smile, every morning I wake up,
I want to feel your lips on mine,
I want to hold you in my arms and pick you up,
I want to hear the harmony of your heartbeats on my ears,
I want to caress your porcelain skin and protect you,
But I see your lifeless body.

My flooding tears can’t stop the fire inside my soul,
I devour the past ecstasies,
For this existence now, seems like a wasteland to me,
I construct a fictional world around you,
Dwelling into the melodies of you.

Maitreyee’s beautiful poetic ode to the one who was dearly loved yet cruelly lost to the hands of time is strong and emotional. The words bleed anger and sorrow, and depict a state of utter loss and turmoil. To accurately capture agony at such a young age is commendable. The poet’s creativity is limitless when the words and feelings are in complete balance.
    Congratulations Maitreyee!
