Coal Dust by Jeff Flesch

diamond-like resilience

made from coal dust

and a little bit of luck from the sun

creates flowers

blooming in the garden of my heart

I trust

the calmness of the rain

pervading the vacuum of my soul

preparing me

I bear witness to things out of my control

and to the sky

always holding me up to the known

Jeff’s poetry speaks volumes about the human condition of suffering and resilience. Without either, there are no tears of sorrow or the beauty of recovery. The sky holds much promise and often we find ourselves gazing at it for answers to questions that require none. We hold inside us the meanings that we seek.
    Congratulations Jeff!
