And No-One Sheds a Tear by Don Matthews

What is lost will never be regained

And no-one sheds a tear

Trees come down, a 100 years, in minutes

And no-one sheds a tear

Firewood sold by the tonne

And no-one sheds a tear

Fields covered in concrete, and not one cow

And no-one sheds a tear

Houses cover the fields

And no-one sheds a tear

Streams dry, creeks gone

And no-one sheds a tear

All gone, all forgotten, crowded estates instead

And no-one sheds a tear

Village stores swallowed by big stores

And no-one sheds a tear

Politicians promise all, but people know the truth

For money talks

And no-one sheds a tear

    1. Yes a very sad state of affairs. Greed and money rule the world. Sadly……

That’s true. No sight of common sense or decency around.

Don’s poem is simple and straightforward but the issues it addresses are complicated and conveniently ignored. A matter becomes a problem when it’s allowed to, and often that’s the way of us humans. Let it be and then we’ll see – which really doesn’t work when you look at the way the world is progressing. Nature is taking a beating, but rest assured it’ll deliver its revenge as and when required.
    Congratulations Don!

  4. Very good Don, a punishing dark humorous poem. Of course some people do shed tears, but by evoking that line it makes the reader question who doesn’t.

  5. Nobody sheds any tears, for the loss of, nature, for the losses of, life, as we are all, getting to, how deaths are, happening, all around us, and, unless it hits us, personally, we don’t, take a, note of, what’s been, lost.

Great post and absolutely true. This continues to happen everywhere and I wonder when it will be so hot because of the lack of trees that people will have to stay in side all winter. We are building bigger and bigger everything and deforestation will affect flooding, water retention in the soil and the amount of clean air we breathe. The flooding now in California due to the fires is now affecting severe mud flow and damage to yards and houses. Greed has a price and that price will continue to rise. Thanks for drawing attention to this Don with you piece.
